East African University Rwanda (EAUR), Kigali Campus, joined the nation on May 22, 2026, in commemorating the 32nd Anniversary of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi (Kwibuka 32). The event was held to honor the memory of the victims, support survivors, and reaffirm the university’s commitment to peace, unity, and reconciliation.
The commemoration brought together university management, academic and administrative staff, students, invited guests, local leaders, and representatives of survivor organizations. Activities began with a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial in Gisozi, where participants learned about the history of the Genocide Against the Tutsi through guided tours and educational presentations.
The official ceremony featured speeches, a moving survivor testimony, and a lecture by Denis Karera on the history, causes, consequences, and lessons of the genocide. Participants were encouraged to preserve the memory of the victims and actively contribute to building a peaceful and united Rwanda.
In a demonstration of solidarity, the Students’ Union mobilized the university community and raised RWF 376,050 to support a genocide survivor. The university also announced financial support of RWF 1,000,000 for a survivor, reflecting EAUR’s continued commitment to standing with survivors and promoting compassion within the university community.
The commemoration strengthened awareness among students and staff, encouraged meaningful reflection, and inspired participants to become ambassadors of unity, reconciliation, and responsible citizenship. Through Kwibuka 32, EAUR once again reaffirmed its dedication to preserving the history of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi and ensuring that the values of “Never Again” continue to guide future generations.
